My De-Stressing techniques:
Yes, my life as a mom, wife, full time MRI Tech (work outside the home), blogger, pet resort owner and freelance writer is slightly stressful. I am always on the look out for new ways to decrease stress in my life. Believe it or not, my drive to and from work is my de-stress portion of my day. Even if I have to sit in traffic, it’s OK. I listen to MY favorite music, listen to MY book on CD or just listen to MYself talk (well, not really.) Taking time for me is hard to do. Any alone time is coveted and sacred. Yes, the only only time I have is on that 35 minute ride to work. I love my family so much, but sometimes I can’t give anymore until I fill ME up.
Chapter 15- Mom takes a time-out is one of my favorite chapters. When you are blessed to be able to stay home with your children, you can nap when they nap, you get scheduled ME time almost every day. But, when your children get older and no longer need that nap, mommy may need to put herself in a time-out to restore her good nature. “Mommy’s time-out was an opportunity for me to hit my shut-off button to refuel so that I could operate for the rest of the day full steam ahead.” I fully support Mommy Time-out. I make sure I take time for a nap to refuel whenever the opportunity arises. Most days my drive to work acts as a restore station. Some days I refuel and restore.
Chapter 25-Instead of asking what’s wrong, ask what’s right- is another of my favorite chapters. So many times we focus on the negative and things don’t look any better. If we take the time to find the positive things in our life, you can’t help but feel hope that things can turn around. My son wears his emotions like a badge on his chest. On those bad days, after we figure out what happened, I work at turning his mood around. We used to bribe him with “prizes” from the Prize Cabinet, but that never works for long. If you ask your child about the good parts of his day, before long, he’ll be smiling and feeling like himself. Try to put a little “I love you” note or a Smiley Face in his lunchbox. Any little surprises can bring a smile and give him a “what’s right” part of his day to talk about. Things might not always go right, but there is always a different way to look at it. We can’t change what happens, but we can change our reaction to it.
