Father’s Day Countdown- 5 Fun Shows

June 12, 2012 by Pam Maynard

5 Best Father’s Day TV Show Episodes

Guest post by Edwin

Father’s Day is quickly approaching, and one way to celebrate everything dads do for us is by watching a good Father’s Day-centric episode of your favorite television show. However, these episodes aren’t your average Father’s Day themed episodes. Here are five best episodes that celebrate fathers in zany, comedic and exciting ways.

1. Not a Father’s Day (How I Met Your Mother):

The seventh episode of the fourth season of “How I Met Your Mother” starts with eternal bachelor Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) creating a holiday called “Not a Father’s Day” after having his own baby scare. However, after a scolding from Ted (Josh Radnor), who says Barney’s following is only men who haven’t chosen to be childless themselves, Barney is later shown remorsefully singing “Cat’s in the Cradle” while holding a baby’s sock, realizing that being childless might not be all he’s thought it would be. Barney’s pitiful state can make you appreciate the caring father in your life. Plus, how can you not sing along to that song, no matter where you hear it?

2. Father’s Day (Tyler Perry’s House of Payne):

Season four of “House of Payne” saw a lot of different relationships with fathers in episode 19, “Father’s Day.” Grandpa Kelly (LaVan Davis) visits the Payne family and realizes that he knew Calvin Payne’s (Lance Gross) wife Miranda (Keisha Knight Pulliam) in a past life. While craziness ensues with that revelation, a homeless man is in search of his son. Tyler Perry always manages to mix humor with heartbreak, and this episode is a prime example.

3. See Homer Run (The Simpsons):

The fourth episode of the 17th season is a lesson surely a lesson in gratefulness. Lisa’s homemade gift for Homer doesn’t go over with him well, and in order to make up for his callousness (and to prevent Lisa from hating all men), Homer dresses up as the Safety Salamander to warn children about the dangers of power lines. Of course, nothing goes to plan, but be thankful that, unlike Homer, your father loves every gift you might give, whether it’s homemade or not.

4. Father’s Day (Doctor Who):

Everyone’s favorite Time Lord not only has a hand in saving various alien civilizations; he also helps save Father’s Day, too. In the eighth episode of series one, the Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) takes Rose (Billie Piper) to 1987 in order to comfort her dying father. However, she ends up preventing his death, which causes the Reapers to be let loose upon the world. This is the ultimate way to celebrate Father’s Day if you and your father love science fiction

5. Father’s Day (Childrens Hospital):

Even though it’s one of the zaniest shows on television, “Childrens Hospital” still takes time out to recognize fathers. The seventh episode of season three finds Dr. Cat Black (Lake Bell) having to break her date with her estranged father, prompting Lola (Erinn Hayes) and Dr. Brian (Jordan Peele) to search for him. If your father has an unconventional sense of humor, he should have a lot of fun with this episode.
