This is the first time I have tried chocolate chips in our banana bread dessert and my kids instantly fell in love! I have never heard so many “Mmmmms” and mouthfuls mumbling “This is sooo good!”. If you like banana bread and love chocolate, this is a dream come true! (It was for my kids)
To make this recipe even better, it contains NO eggs, NO milk, NO butter or oil, and NO granulated sugar! (I promise it is still delicious!) You can make this even healthier by adding dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet or milk chocolate varieties. Who knew dessert could be this good? ~ Victoria
*The recipe below prepares enough batter for three small loaf pans.
Ingredients:
- 5-6 Ripe Bananas
- 2/3 cup Apple Sauce
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 1/2 cup Brown Sugar, firmly packed
- 3 cups Self Rising Flour
- 3 cups Chocolate Chips
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Mash bananas in a small bowl. Add apple sauce, vanilla, and brown sugar to the bananas and combine. Pour flour into a large bowl and create a well. Pour banana mixture into the well, add 2 cups chocolate chips, and combine gently.
Grease loaf pans and divide batter evenly among the pans. Top each loaf with remaining chocolate chips. Bake for 40 minutes.
Note: Substitute All Purpose Flour in this recipe by adding add 1-1/2 Tbsp baking powder and 1-1/2 tsp salt to your flour before adding banana mixture.
