Are you ready for your new bundle of joy? Parenthood can be very stressful!
Having a baby changes your life, as any parent can tell you. As the due date looms, it may be the right time to think about adding more square footage to your living arrangement by considering a home or Streetcar condo purchase. No matter where you live, there will definitely be things you want to think about before the baby enters your life. The best way to prepare is to take inventory of what you have in place now, and what will need to change to keep baby happy and safe in the future. A room to room sweep will help uncover each issue so they can be addressed.
Throughout the Home
One of the first things to check for when preparing your home for baby’s arrival is smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. They should be installed and working properly. This is also a good time to make sure that you have emergency plans in place and a clear route to your baby’s crib. Another safety concern are outlets and wires throughout the home. Even though it will be awhile before baby is mobile, it is better to prepare before baby arrives while you have more time and energy. This is also a great time to install a baby gate to protect your little one from stairs or areas that are dangerous.
Bathroom
Safety in the bathroom can start with setting the hot water heater to a lower temperature. Scalding water can cause burns on sensitive skin. Another source of danger to children is prescription medicines. Check that all bottles are out of baby’s reach. Another precaution is to install childproof locks on the toilet to prevent accidental drowning.
Kitchen
The kitchen is full of potential dangers. Locks are available for the refrigerator, oven and dishwasher. At the very least, make sure dangerous objects are not stored within baby’s reach. Garbage should be stored out of the way so they can’t get into it.
Nursery
In the nursery, make sure all furniture is secured to the wall. Also, check that shelves, pictures, and any other decorations are not within reach. Your crib should meet all modern safety standards. If your home right now doesn’t have a designated space, look at condos for sale in Toronto or other cities that have built in nurseries that are safe for small children.
Living Room
In the living areas of your home, make sure the furniture does not contain lead paint. All pieces should not have sharp corners, or be easy to tip over. If you have a fire place, a gate should be put in place to protect baby from getting into it.
Preparing your home before baby arrives is important for safety and for your peace of mind. With a little preparation, your home can be baby ready in no time.
