Five Minute Christmas Ornaments

Simply elegant ornaments

What’s a mom to do when left alone for an entire afternoon in November … start decorating for Christmas, of course!  I’m in love with the shabby chic/farmhouse style right now.  I’ve been brainstorming for weeks trying to figure out some DIY ornaments that wouldn’t break the bank and are easy peasy. (I’m all about simple over here!)  Honestly, I’m almost embarrassed at how ridiculously simple this ornament is to make but they just turned out so cute I had to share.  Five minute Christmas ornaments may be exaggerating a little – I whipped up 9 of these beauties in less than 30 minutes. 🙂

Isn’t that just darling?!?  Want some on your tree?  I thought so.  So here’s the scoop on how you can have yours for very little time and money.

Supplies:

  • Cross stitch hoop (I got 4″ from WalMart for $0.97 – you can go smaller or larger if you’d like but this size worked well on my tree)
  • Fabric of choice (I picked a small roll of burlap with lace over it at WalMart for $5.96 and have over 3/4 left)
  • Jute Cord/ribbon of choice (I had this left from other projects)

Measure out your fabric and cut, be sure and leave a good 1″- 1 1/2″ of fabric all the way around the hoop.

Place in the hoop, just like you would if your were doing needle point.

Trim excess fabric around hoop.  I was tempted to skip this step but I already have burlap trim on my tree and decided this was just too much.

Tie on loop through the hoop tightener (technical name there, but I have no idea what you call that thing!)

Hang and enjoy

Told you they were easy.  But just so stinking cute!  I love what they’ve added to our tree.  I’ve thought about getting some more and turning the fabric around and putting a stamp on it…  Little by little I’m doing a tree in our master bedroom that’s revolving around our travels, I’d love to make some that say “And I think to myself what a wonderful world…”, someday – but for now the lace adds just the right touch of elegance :).

Now go get that tree down, put on the Christmas music and sip some eggnog while you adorn your tree!

I’d love to see your DIY Christmas goodies, I’m always on the hunt for a new project!
