How do you encourage the love of music in your children? We have always had various instruments in the home so the children could learn how to play them. From a young age, some of ours had a talent for any instrument they picked up. They would quickly learn the skills needed to enjoy creating music. We recently added a new instrument that has become the favorite of everyone from the preschooler to the adults. My Thoughts
At first glance, the Blipblox appears to be a toy for children. And one that makes cute sounds and rhythms that little ones can use to create their own songs. However, once you start playing with it, you will find that is it actually a fully functional synthesizer that can be used to create tracks and music.
Created by Playtime Engineering, this musical toy was designed to promote creativity and audio exploration. The Blipblox has the professional audio algorithms that you would find on much larger and more expensive units.
The unit has directional arrows on the top that act as sequence guides. These guides are to help children learn to create their won mixes (soundwaves). All the knobs and buttons are over sized and brightly colored. This is part of the charm of the unit. It is fun to look at, and fun to play with while making up songs and rhythms. The guide arrows are easy to follow and the handles increase or decrease the speed and length of each note in the sequence.
Easy to play
My little ones loved the lights and different sounds they could make on the Blipblox. Allie laughed and had a blast dancing along with the beats she created.
Colton, being a few years older; was able to better understand how the system worked. He had a really nice soundwave going. At this point he asked if the unit could record what he created. I was surprised at how easy he understood the system. Who knows, we may have a musical future for one of our little ones.
The Blipblox comes with a MIDI input to connect with a keyboard or sequencer controller in order to incorporate the sounds into other tracks. It also has a headset port for those times when only the user needs to hear the tracks played (over and over)!
