When I started homeschooling five years ago it brought me a heightened sense of awareness on educational gifts. Before our homeschooling journey began, educational gifts were kind of an after thought. My focus was more on what the child wanted for Christmas instead. As parents, we are constantly redirecting our children in areas they may not have thought of before in an effort to expose them to what is “best” for them. We can do this for Christmas gifts too. Your child may not have NatGeo KiDS gifts on their list to Santa, but that doesn’t mean they won’t love it when they get their hands on it!
National Geographic KiDS Weird but True Fact-a-Day FUN Journal is the biggest hit in our house. I have seen it in the hands of all of my bigger kids at some point during their reading time. While cooking dinner, facts are flown at me by whatever child is reading the book at the time. “Hey momma! Did you know that red heads never go grey?” (Page 183)
My favorite question was from my teenage son.
“Hey momma, which one of us gets more mosquito bites?”
My response “You. why?”
(son) “Never mind”…
“Mosquitoes use body odor to find victims.” (Page 195)
Weird but True is packed full of great photos and one-liner facts. When read as intended, your child learns one new fact a day for an entire year. My kids however, read this book continuously in one sitting because it is so interesting they can’t put it down!
National Geographic KiDS Funny Fill-In are similar to other fill-in grammar pages, but with their own twist. These Fill-In books contain full-color photos and art AND wacky bonus facts too! These books are the ultimate learning tool and kids don’t even realize it! I require all of my writing homeschoolers (my bigger bunch) to complete one Funny Fill-In each day but they often complete two, or more, on their own.
National Geographic Kids Dinos Sticker Activity Book and the Sharks Sticker Activity Book have been reserved for my four year-old. He loves both Dinosaurs and Sharks so these two are special and coveted in our home. No one is permitted to use them but him because he treasures these books so much. They have a TON of stickers in there! Using the stickers in the book on the activity pages is easy because he can match the sticker shape to the outline on the activity page. The books make him feel independent with his “reading”, encouraging book time even when it is on his own.
Please visit the National Geographic KiDS Store for more information on these great books.
National Geographic KiDS books are featured on Mom Does Reviews Holiday Gift Guide this year as the perfect educational gift for children. Include them as a stocking stuffer, sneak one in with their new clothes gift, or pickup a set as a surprise gift they will never think of! All kids LOVE National Geographic KiDS books – a least, all of the kids in my house do (five out of five kids agree *wink*).
